Full-length feature film review (The Human Centipede)
Plot overview: 'Two American college girls become the subjects of a sadistic medical experiment while on a road trip across Europe. Invited to a party by a handsome waiter, Jenny and Lindsay are en route to the festivities when their car breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Desperate, they decide to seek help on foot, eventually coming across the home of a retired surgeon named Dr. Heiter (Dieter Laser). Dr. Heiter is internationally renowned for his work on separating conjoined twins, but these days he's using his surgical skills for something entirely different. His goal is to create a human centipede by removing his patient's kneecaps, and sewing them together, mouth-to-anus. The only thing preventing Dr. Heiter from carrying out his experiment is a lack of human subjects. When Jenny and Lindsay arrive on his doorstep, Dr. Heiter enthusiastically begins prepping for surgery.'
A Review/ comments: 'It's an undeniably revolting concept, but most of the actual gore would be matched by your average pre-watershed medical shock doc.' - Quentin Clarke
+/- Out of 21 critics, 11 critics liked it. They are reviewed by either independent site members or journalists.
An abundant critique that reviewers comment on immediately is the director Tom Six's explicit, gruesome and utterly mind-boggling concept of creating a triplet-Human centipede, attaching the victims mouth-to-anus as to create a creature with one singular digestive system. No director in history has ever stretched the boundaries of gore and horror as much as Six, and the latest addition 'The Human Centipede II: Full Sequence' is banned from release in England due to its horrendously gory qualities. As the genre remains to be referred to as a slasher horror, it is still obvious that this film definitely tests the genres limits. Surely a film of this degree of horror deserves it's own category.

SAY HELLO TO MY LITTLE FWEND
PRESENTING LARA WALLY CROFT
Yes that's right, may all you Trash-Chavs run in fear for this saucy, kick-ass, extremely-applaudable-hiding-ability woman is back in town and she's on a mission!
OK back to reality for a brief moment. First thing's first- this was not my idea. 'Twas my ever-enthusiastic optimist of a group member Paige's. And at first, I thought the idea was ludicrous. I mean, a legendary Amercian action heroine who, alongside Futurama-Bender lookalike C-B-A, aims to vanquish a small, suburb in space from Trash-Chavs (which are, basically, chavs with incredibly spikey, robot-impaling hair.)
Like, how orginal can you get, right...?!
WRONG
As we built the storyboard, I began to sense that Paige's mentally, dumb-founded idea could actually work :)
Here is a brief run-down about The Adventures of Wally Croft;
- The genre we are focusing on a Sci-Fi/ Crime hybrid but with the occasional comedic element. Albeit we were begged by our Media teacher to steer clear from the comdey circuit, we feel that C-B-A wouldn't have his spark without his funny bone.
- Hyperbole will be a key theme; we are talking about a century light-years away. Society itself will be bigger, bolder and crazier than ever before.
- Ms Croft has a variety of able weapons - acid-squirting pistols are a popular favourite of hers.
- We may choose to animate the film because some of the stuff that happens in the plot is just not plausible in the sad reality of 2011.
- There are two gangs Marco the robot gang and Jahnny the human gang, both gangs present Todorov's main persona on the main character of the villian, in charcteristic and behaviour wise etc.
- C-B-A is Croft's sidekick but in a twist, C-B-A is working for Marco 'cos C-B-A owes Marco a debt that he can't pay back, therefore has to give Croft in himself.

How has Sci-Fi changed over time?
Science Fiction is a genre that has universally ignited and captivated the imaginations of audiences worldwide. It is a genre that strives on fear, with trade-mark characters predominantly associated with the likes of aliens, space and the paranormal. It is created to evoke fear to the audience and condemnation to the unfortunate characters fighting for their lives.
Here are 3 examples of the Sci-fi genre and how they have differed as time progressed;
This film focuses on alien invasions, possibly due to the Cold War which induced avid paranoia of anything not American and highly suspicious unidentified artifacts. Also, a few years before in 1947, America bore witness to the infamous Roswell spacecraft crash, which further increased speculation to UFO conspiracy theories.
Just like 'The day the Earth stood still', this film is based on alien activity but with a more sinister, gut-wrenching twist. The difference is that this time, movie producers have decided to base this on a true story. In parts of this film, the screen is split between the Hollywood remake (starring Milla Jovovich) and real-life recordings of hypnotisms featured in the plot.
Moving away from its alien counterparts, this post-apocolyptic film is about the extinction of human civilisation and one man's mission to create a drug to transform the people of New York from blood-sucking savage zombies. Although this still has the qualities of a typical Sci-fi film, the elements of danger, trepidation, fear and general jump-out-of-your-seat action allows this film to lead towards the horror genre aswell, therefore, producing a new hybrid.

!NTRO
This year, it's all about discovering the Steven Speilberg in me. Well, maybe not quite.
'Cos I, Laura-Amy Rebecca Bailey - humble, eccentric indie-kid - don't quite have the extraordinary, skillful calibre of a big-name Hollywood director/ prodcucer :/ though we can always dream...Alas.
And still I aim high! Yus, without a doubt, Media Studies is my main vocation, it is my element, it is my comfort blanket, it is my Starbucks frappucino on a hungover morning, it is my Kate Middleton to my Prince Willy. Therefore, I aim for no less than an A for my overall A2 grade.
"Hard, b!tch"
"I ain't scared, bring it."
For my overall AS result, I received a B (A for TV Concepts, B for institutions and audiences) which I was ecstatic with! I have every faith that this year, grades will get better. The only way is up baby.
"Big headed much."
"Does it offend you, YEAH?!"
Sorry guyz, just my haters hatin' :$
As part of my coursework, I will be creating a double-page spread, based on a short 5-minute film I have created. My coursework will be a film review, which expresses my devoted passion for journalism.
So I hope you enjoy my work, let the credits roll :)))))

Hi, my name is Laura and I'm a blog-a-holic
The next post you're about to see is my simple, amateur (albeit short!) attempt at filming and editing a film. Now, quite clearly, I am no Quentin Tarantino - casting Brad Pitt and Eli Roth as main roles doesn't really stretch as far as the Prior gates... Alas!
Nethertheless, I gave it my best shot - my best cross-cuts, pans and shot-reverse-shots to be exact. So, FYI; as part of Prior's 2 week A2 tasters, the Media depo decided to appoint us all to film a 30 second film in a particular genre and edit it with 3 specific shots in mind - shot-reverse-shot, graphic match/ cross cut and match-on action. All my group had to do was decide on a genre. And after much explicit, euphemised banter, we settled on the crime genre. Here are the lines we were given to help us, ahem, decide ;)
Character 1: Do it
Character 2: I can't
Character 1: Just do it!
I can't wait for you to do it...
At first, I wondered what other testerone-fuelled teenagers would make of these lines... hmm.
So, the moment is upon us! Grab ya popcorn, a few cans o' Monster, sit back and enjoy..............
